As is standard practice
in the UK, our fee for translation is usually based on a rate per 1,000 characters
or words in the source text (the text to be translated), but where this is impractical
another method may be agreed upon, such as a rate per 1,000 words produced in
the target text.
Interpreting fees are charged per day or half day, with any overtime calculated
per hour. Travelling and other applicable expenses are normally payable by the
client.

IT Issues and Quality Control
The vast majority of our work is carried out electronically, with files for translation received and returned by e-mail. An electronic file is always to be preferred if available.Files can be accepted in all the major formats, including Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat (PDF)/Illustrator. All of our translations are carefully proofread before being returned to the client. We can supply files by e-mail, on a floppy or Zip disk, on CD, or as a hard copy.
Translation - Not so simple
Many people might be forgiven
for thinking that anyone fluent in a foreign language can translate, as long
as they have a reasonably good dictionary to hand.
However, being fluent in another language in itself doesnt make someone
a good translator. Translation, at least of a professional quality, takes a
high level of familiarity with the culture of both the source and target languages,
a knowledge of the subject matter concerned, an eye for detail, a good written
style in the target language (it seems obvious, but all too often this is not
the case) and excellent research resources. Translation errors can have dire,
and sometimes comical consequences.
In this age of information, faithful and effective cross-cultural communication
is more important than ever before, and at Japan Translate we pride ourselves
on serving our clients needs accurately and efficiently. For more information
on what a good translation requires we would direct you to the ITIs guide
